PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily execute the preparation of a layout and news items by accurately calculating the numbers of characters and the numbers of lines of characters allowed to be included in respective objects arranged in a layout and displaying the calculated results to an operator with respect to a document editor for inputting respective news items to a complicated layout for a newspaper or the like. SOLUTION: When an operator prepares objects for inputting characters and a connection management part 12 sets up the connection of the objects, a number of characters/number of lines calculation part 17 allows an em character string generation part/extension part 16 to generate em character strings and allows a typesetting part 13 to set up the types of the character strings. When a typesetting result is in an overflow state, the calculation part 17 counts up the number of characters and the number of lines generated by the typesetting and displays the counted results on a display part 18. |
