PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a system inspecting method for an electronic controller capable of eliminating data analysis processing in an electronic controller, the storage area of its software and a storage area for received data. SOLUTION: An external tool 20 sends data for system inspection to an ECU 1 containing a microcomputer 2 by communication, and writing is performed into the microcomputer 2 itself or to external RAMs 5 and 7. The microcomputer 2 is provided with an NBD module 9 and is also provided with a memory access function by which the RAMs 5 and 7 can be accessed without going through a CPU 3 in accordance with an external request. The memory access function writes data for system inspection directly to the RAMs 5 and 7, and the CPU 3 decides whether the system is in an inspection state, and when decided as an inspection state, data requested by control performed except when the system is inspected is prohibited from being stored in the RAMs 5 and 7.
