A roller drive sprocket system, in which a drive roller mounts sprockets for driving a belt, and having a general cylindrical drive drum, semicylindrical grooves formed axially along the surface of the drive drum at spaced intervals radially therearound, a sprockets formed of plastic material sprockets having externally facing drive teeth at spaced intervals, for driving a belt, and having internal cylindrical surfaces, having a radius greater than the radius of the drive drum, metal keys, embedded in the cylindrical inner surface of said sprockets, spaced radially therearound, the keys fitting in respective grooves in the surface of the cylindrical drive roller portions of the keys extending radially inwardly from the sprockets, to interengage with the grooves, to provide a positive metal-to-metal torque engagement.
