PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antioxidant having a radical scavenger activity, capable of preventing or improving oxidative cytotoxicity caused from active oxygen or lipoperoxide and useful for food and drink, or the like, by using a coffee acid dimer as an active component. SOLUTION: This antioxidant contains a coffee acid dimer such as a compound (salts), or the like, expressed by formulas I-III as an active component. Preferably, the coffee acid dimer is derived from a bryophytes and is prepared by using an enzyme such as a peroxidase derived from horseradish, ferric chloride such as ferric chloride hexahydrate or sodium periodate, and the antioxidant is used as a formulation such as, a tablet or powder and its using amount is daily 100 μg-1,000 mg per an adult and is preferably taken at one time or by driving in several portions. |
