摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently transfer cells without causing congestion in client/server type traffic through the control utilizing features a client/server model in an ATM communication network. SOLUTION: A client sets an OAM cell with rate information denoting an available transmission reception rate by the client written therein to the head of a series of data cells. An ATM switch 10 estimates a frequency band by which the cells can be transferred without causing congestion depending on a remaining frequency band, a current quene length and the rate information and writes the estimated information to the OAM cell. A server sets a transmission rate to transfer cells to the client without causing congestion according to the frequency band information and data size information and gives an OAM cell with the transmission rate therein to the head and the tail end of a series of data. The ATM switch 10 reserves the frequency band according to the information of the transmission rate in the OAM cell at the head of a series of data sent from the server to the client and releases the frequency band according to the information of the transmission rate of the OAM cell placed at the tail end of the data.</p>
