<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the detection of the flaw formed on a magnetic tape by providing the apparatus with a reading optical system having a light source which makes read light incident on a read position and an image sensor which reads the light reflected or diffused to the tape. SOLUTION: The tape T is supported in the read position (x) by a supporting means 26 and the laser beam L which is emitted from the light source 12 and is made incident on the read position (x) is reflected by the tape T and is made incident on the image sensor 14, by which the laser beam is optoelectrically read. The output of the image sensor 14 is outputted to a data processing means 16. If there is the flaw or the like on the surface of the tape T, the laser L is irregularly reflected and the image sensor output changes. The surface of the tape T is read by the laser L diffused in the transverse direction of the tape T and the distance from the light source 12 to the read position (x) and the distance from the read position (x) to the image sensor 14 are regulated, by which the resolution and accuracy may be improved.</p> |
