A hair colouring composition comprises sone or more developers (I), one or more couplers (II), and an antioxidant (III). (I) is an aminoaromatic system capable of being oxidised and thereafter undergoing a single electrophilic attack. (II) is (A) phenol or naphthol having an active leaving group para to the hydroxyl group, (B) a 1,3-diketone containing the group (B1), or (C) a pyrazolone compound of formula (C1); (where Z = an active leaving group; and X = an active leaving group or a non-leaving group. (I) in presence of an oxidising agent reacts with (II) only at position having said active leaving group. A kit comprising (I), (II) and (III), and the method of colouring the hair using these components, are also claimed. |
