PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for automatically registering and releasing a location in power on/off in a CT2(Second Generation Cordless Telephone) system are provided to automatically register an initial location when power is turned on and to release the location when power is turned off. CONSTITUTION: A control part in a CT2 terminal checks whether power is turned on(301). If power is turned on, the control part executes self-diagnosis and initialization(302) and transmits an initial location registration signal to a WPBX(Wireless Private Branch eXchange)(303). A management part periodically monitors whether an initial location registration signal is received from the WPBX(311). If the initial location registration signal is received through the WPBX from the CT2 terminal, the management part detects a mobile station authentication code from the received signal. The management part searches a database to check whether an identical mobile station authentication code exists and judges whether the CT2 terminal is a registered subscriber terminal(312). If the CT2 terminal is a registered subscriber terminal, the management part transmits a location trace signal to the CT2 terminal(313). If the location trace signal is received(304), the control part detects a base station authentication code from the location trace signal and forms a link(305). Then the control part checks whether a power-off key is inputted(306). If the power-off key is inputted, the control part sends a location registration release signal to the WPBX(307).
