<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melting method of an aluminum-based composite material in which a material loss is decreased in melting a base material and a return material composed of an aluminum-based composite material. SOLUTION: An ingot 14 composed of a composite material of an aluminum alloy incorporating silicone carbide and chips 15 of the same material are located in a melting furnace 11. In this case, a layer of chips 15 is so laid as to be held between each layer of the ingot 14 in the melting furnace 11, i.e., an arrangement is made in a way that the ingot layer 14, the chips layer 15, and the ingot layer 14 are piled up in sequence from the bottom, and in this state the ingot 14 and chips 15 are heated at 730 deg.C and molten while gaseous argon is introduced into the melting furnace 11. With this melting method, a loss of material during the melting of the ingot 14 and the chips 15 is decreased.</p> |
