PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a novel scandium borocarbide compound useful as a spectroscopic element material, a thermo-element material, or the like, and to provide its producing method. SOLUTION: The producing method of the scandium borocarbide compound expressed by a proportional composition formula, Sc3BC3 comprises a step of obtaining a scandium carbide compound (Sc2C) by the reaction of a mixture, obtained by mixing Sc2O3 with carbon in the ratio based on formula I, at 1500-1800 deg.C in vacuum or an inert gas atmosphere and a step of allowing a mixture obtained by mixing boron and carbon with the scandium carbide compound in the ratio based on formula II, to react under the same condition as above. The formula I: Sc2O3+4C→Sc2C+3CO↑. The formula II: 3Sc2C+2nB+3 C→2Sc3BnC3. Where, 0.6<=n<=1.1.
