<p>An improved cathodoluminescent flat panel display having ability to deflect and focus the electron stream (19) and a secondary emissive cell for producing secondary electron emission to increase the brightness of the display. In one embodiment, a planar array of intermediate electrodes (14a-14e) is disposed between the cathode element (12a-12f) and grid structure (1-7) of the display unit to provide the deflecting and focusing ability. Each secondary emissive cells includes secondary emissive plate (51), guard electrodes (13a-13f) for directing the primary electrons, and control plates (10, 11) for controlling and directing the secondary electrons.</p> |
