摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical compensating film less liable to a change in the birefringent characteristics due to an external impulse such as heat, excellent in its stability and excellent also in lightness in weight per unit area. SOLUTION: A birefringent phase-contrast layer 12 is supported in a close contact state by a transparent film substrate 11 having a specific gravity of <=1.15 and <=30&times;10-12 m2/N photoelastic coefficient to obtain the objective optical compensating film 1. The objective optical compensating polarizing plate 5 comprises a laminated body including the optical compensating film whose phase-contrast layer comprises a liquid crystalline polymer and a polarizing plate 3. The objective liquid crystal display device has the optical compensating film or the film and the polarizing plate on at least one side of a liquid crystal cell. The display device light in weight even in a large screen, exhibiting a stable compensating effect, excellent in uniformity of display grade and having good visibility is formed with good reliability.
