PURPOSE: An IPS(In-Plane Switching) mode liquid crystal display device is provided to form two inclined electric fields symmetrical to each other in a single unit pixel space, for forming double domains when the electric fields are applied to the liquid crystal display device, for showing major and minor axes simultaneously at every direction and preventing the color shift, thereby preventing color shift and improving an opening ratio and transmissivity. CONSTITUTION: An IPS mode liquid crystal display device includes top and bottom substrates facing to each other with a predetermined distance, liquid crystal sealed between the top and bottom substrates and having liquid crystal molecules, first electrode formed on an inner surface of the bottom substrate, and second electrode formed on the inner surface of the bottom substrate for forming electric fields with the first electrodes to drive the liquid crystal, wherein major axes of the liquid crystal molecules are aligned in a first direction and in parallel to the surface of the substrate when no electric fields are formed between the first and second electrodes. As a predetermined voltage is applied to the first and second electrodes, first electric fields having an angle difference from the first direction by 90-&thgr; and second electric fields having an angle difference from the first direction by -90+&thgr; are generated simultaneously. The first and second electrodes are formed of transparent materials with a gap narrower than the distance between the substrates and have a width allowing the liquid crystal molecules on the electrodes to move by the electric fields.
