PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for an alkaline storage battery that has both durability and permeability. SOLUTION: The separator 5 comprises a first non-woven fabric layer 5a made of polyolefin ultra-fine fiber with an average diameter of 0.5-9μm to have permeability, and a second woven fabric layer 5b made of polyolefin fiber with an average diameter of at least 10μm to have permeability. It is arranged in the alkaline storage battery with the positive electrode 6 positioned in the first layer 5a and the negative electrode 7 in the second layer 5b.
