<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an emulsion coagulated toner which is highly stable against frictional electrification even when placed under high-temperature/high-humidity circumstances. SOLUTION: This method is provided for preparing an emulsion coagulated toner latex without using a surface active agent. The method includes a process wherein a water-based emulsion of monomers are prepared without using a surface active agent, a process wherein a free-radical initiator is added to at least a part of the emulsion for the initiation of seed polymerization for the formation of a seed polymer, and a process wherein monomers are added to the resultant composition for the completion of polymerization for the formation of a latex polymer. The free-radical initiator bonds to the seed polymer for the formation of ionic hydrophilic terminal groups on the seed polymer.</p> |
