A compound of Formula (1): wherein: X<1> is a sulpho or carboxy group; each X<2> independently is a substituent; m has a value of from 0 to 2; Y<1> and Y<2> are each independently alkyl or halo; and Z is a carboxy group. The above compounds may be used as colorants for ink jet printing inks either alone or as a mixture with a second magenta compound.
