PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element of an active matrix system using a ferroelectric or an anti-ferroelectric liquid crystal permitting to obtain a high aperture ratio and also perform favorable display driving. SOLUTION: Edge parts along vertical line parts 11a, 11b of drain lines 11 of pixel electrodes 3 are made to adjoin the drain lines 11 or to overlap them through an insulating film in the range in which an effective capacitance Ceff of a pixel area A where the pixel electrodes 3 are faced to counter electrodes, capacitance Cgs between gates and sources of TFTs 4, and capacitance Cds between drains and sources of the TFTs 4 satisfy the condition of Cds/(Ceff+Cgs+Cds)<=0.045. |
