PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device uniform in the thickness of a liquid crystal layer in pixels and capable of realizing an achromatic black-and-white display high in contrast and sufficiently fight in a white display by rugging a reflection plane. SOLUTION: The reflection type liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal cell 11 having a liquid crystal sealed in a pair of substrates 1, 19, and a polarizer film 12, one or more birefringence films 13a, 13b and reflection layer 3. In this device, a rugged layer 2, a reflection layer 3, a leveling layer 6 and transparent electrode 7 are successively laminated on the lower substrate 1. The level difference between the highest part and lowest part of the surface of the leveling layer is <=0.1 μm. The twisted angle of the liquid crystal layer is controlled to 220 deg. to 270 deg.. The rugged layer is not present in the connecting terminal part between the liquid crystal cell 11 and an external circuit. |
