OCCUPANT PROTECTIVE AIR BAG

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enlarge an occupant holding range at the beginning of expansion by carrying out the expanding action of an air bag in the order of lateral (vehicle cross direction) expansion and longitudinal (occupant side) expansion. SOLUTION: This air bag is composed of an occupant holding air bag, an expansion regulating bag and an expansion regulator. The expansion regulating bag is a small capacity air bag jointed to the occupant holding air bag and is expanded in a very short time with gas from an inflator compared with the occupant holding air bag. The expansion regulator regulates the expanding direction of the expansion regulating bag in a cross direction. The expansion regulator is so constituted as to wrap the joint of the expansion regulating bag and inflator to thereby regulate the expanding direction.
