SELF-HEALING OPTICAL BACK PLANE FOR COUPLING COMPONENTS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide efficient optical coupling for an optical fiber cable back plane of a disk driving device. SOLUTION: An independent array of the disk driving device is connected with an optical fiber cable in the back plane. Each driving device assembly is provided with an optical interface to be engaged in one of a series of connectors on the back plane. Data are stored by accessing the disk driving device by a host computer by an operation signal to be transmitted via the cable. The driving device is connected with the cable connector by an active plug via the interface. The connector is provided with pivot members to be movable between an opened position and a closed position. The cable is coupled to each pivot member so that one optical coupling is formed in each connector. The interface of the driving device is inserted into the pivot member to access the data on the cable. When the driving device is detached from the connector, the pivot members are closed and continuation of optical transmission to a downstream of the cable is enabled with the minimum signal loss.
