PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a rim of a large or medium sized steel wheel by which a configurational defect remaining at the joined part is removed after a butt welding and a trimming in performed. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the rim of the large or medium sized steel wheel includes a process where a raw material 1 of the rim is made to a ring and the ends are welded by a flash butt welding, a process where the burr 3 of the welded part 2 is trimmed, and a process where a heat source of a high energy density is reciprocally moved in the direction perpendicular to a weld line to remote the surface of the welded zone after the burr is trimmed.
