PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the generation of a memory overflow error in such a case that a character large in the number of points is printed in the image forming apparatus of a printer or the like. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a font size discrimination part 203a for discriminating the font size indicated from a host computer 101, a vector intermediate word forming part 203b for converting outline font data to intermediate words of a vector system, a bit map intermediate word forming part 203c for converting the outline font data to intermediate words of a bit map system and a dot image forming part 203d for forming a printing image from the intermediate words and, in such a case that the indication of the font size is below a threshold value, the outline font data is converted to bit map data to be held as the intermediate words of the bit map system and, in the case of the threshold value or more, the outline font data is converted to the intermediate words of the vector system to be held. |
