A heat exchanger made of a plurality of spheroidally shaped particles of a uniform size is disclosed. Points of contact of the spheroidal particles are fused to each other to form a porous structure (12). At least a fraction of the structure is contiguous and a substantial fraction of the voids between the particles forms a plurality of continuous tortuous passageways through which a fluid cooling medium can flow.
