PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent injection response and accuracy from lowering due to fluctuation in the operating characteristics of a shape memory element by heat radiation to fuel, when injecting the fuel with its temperature being low such as cold starting in a fuel injection valve provided with the shape memory element as an actuator. SOLUTION: In a case where the fuel temperature in the cold starting is relatively lower compared with the transformation temperature of the shape memory element 6, a current is carried from a controller 30 the shape memory element 6 to heat it and raise the temperature of the fuel introduced to its circumference to a little lower than the transformation point of the shape memory element 6 so that the temperature gradient between the shape memory element 6 and the fuel is minified. This method can improve the response of the shape memory element in the fuel injection so as to improve the controllability of the injection quantity and timing of the fuel.
