Polypeptide, designated MSP1, having a 960 residue amino acid sequence (S1), fully defined in the specification, or a homologous sequence, or biologically active fragment, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) isoforms, designated MSP1-X, of MSP1; (2) polypeptides derived from MSP1 or MSP1-X with mutations that alter or delete biological activity; (3) nucleic acid (I), or its complement, that encodes MSP1 or MSP1-X; (4) cloning and/or expression vector containing (I) linked to a promoter, functional in prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells, and optionally at least one selection marker; (5) eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells transformed with the vector of (4); (6) production of MSP1 or MSP1-X by culturing cells of (5), or by in vitro expression of the vectors of (4); (7) method for detecting MSP1 or MSP1-X; (8) method for purifying MSP1 or MSP1-X; (9) monoclonal antibodies, or their fragments, and chimeric or immunoconjugated antibodies that recognize MSP1 or MSP1-X specifically; (10) method for immunological detection of MSP1 or MSP1-X; (11) method for detecting the GTP(guanosine triphosphate)ase activity of MSP1 or MSP1-X; and (12) method of screening for molecules that modify activity of MSP1 or MSP1-X. |
