automotive industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to design of air bags arranged preferably behind dashboard and inflated by gas generator. Air bag is kept folded under cover element in dashboard area. Said cover element opens hole for unfolding the air bag to provide protection of passenger chest when air bag is set in operating position. Proposed cover element 4 is made in form of shield for air bag 3 means of which part of air bag can be deflected or set in position in which additional protection of passenger body parts is provided. Size of released hole 10 depends on position of passenger in case of road accident. EFFECT: provision of simple method of control of unfolding of air bag depending on position of passenger on seat. 12 cl, 2 dwg
