PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera capable of realizing appropriate light control to a subject although various backgrounds exist at backlight photographing. SOLUTION: This electronic camera having an illumination means 13 is equipped with: a photometry means 8 for obtaining 1st photometric information obtained by performing photographing without illumination by the illumination means and 2nd photometric information obtained by performing photographing by illuminating the subject by the illumination means out of at least two pieces of photometric information being luminance information of a plurality of divided area; a backlight detection means 8 for detecting whether a photographing scene is a backlight scene from the 1st photometric information out of the above pieces of photometric information; and a light control object area extraction means 8 for extracting a light control area on the basis of at least two pieces of photometric information being the above-mentioned photometric information when the detection means 8 detects that the photographing scene is the backlight scene. |
