PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate with little deterioration against intense light from a light source and to provide a liquid crystal display device, particularly a liquid crystal projector using the polarizing plate. SOLUTION: The dye-based polarizing film is prepared by adsorbing and aligning a dichroic dye in a polyvinylalcohol film and has >=3.0 absorbance at 440 nm wavelength. The liquid crystal display device has the above polarizing film on at least one face side of a liquid crystal cell, and the liquid crystal projector has the polarizing film on at least one face of the liquid crystal cell. In the liquid crystal projector, the above polarizing film is effectively used for an incident side polarizing plate 8B or exit side polarizing plate 9B disposed at a distance from the liquid crystal cell 7B corresponding to blue light B with high energy of light. |
