PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce printing faults of a recording head by reducing generation of bubbles associated with executing a cleaning operation of sucking and discharging ink from the recording head. SOLUTION: In a process of executing a cleaning operation of discharging ink from the recording head, the ink is discharged to a capping means 9 from the recording head 12 as shown in (B), and the ink is filled into the capping means until an ink level reaches an opening edge of the capping means 9 as shown in (C). The recording head is brought in a capping state in this state as shown in (D), and a suction operation is carried out as shown in (E). Since the ink fills between a nozzle formation face of the recording head and the capping means, a degree of generating bubbles by the suction action is eliminated or greatly decreased, whereby printing faults by the recording head can be reduced. |
