PURPOSE: To provide an automatic focusing unit and an electronic imaging unit, in which units defects of a TTL(Through The Lens) focusing state deciding means, that is, slow focus detection, excessive power consumption and gross errors in detecting a focus for a low-luminance object are improved and which units are made usable for an inexpensive general electronic still camera imaging lens, having a plastic-molded lens barrel. CONSTITUTION: Each of the unit is provided with a drive control means for calibrating a conversion reference, when judging that the calibration of the conversion reference is necessary, converting object distance measured by an open control range finding means into a focal position, based on the conversion reference, and then driving a focusing lens group so as to be moved to the focal position.
