The invention relates to a receptacle for receiving and in particular also capturing a microscopic biological or non-biological object (20) that is to be examined by a microscope (13), said object being detached from a surrounding mass, in particular using laser illumination and being catapulted towards the receptacle (1). According to a first example, at least one area of a receiving surface (3) of the receptacle (1), which receives the respective object (20), consists of a translucent material with light-diffusing properties, for example a translucent material with an opaque appearance, in order to obtain a better definition of the individual structures of the objects (20) during the examination with a microscope (13) of the catapulted object (20) on the receiving surface (3), or of an object on an object carrier (14). According to another example, the edge (4), which projects upwards from the receiving surface (3) and which is aligned with the objective lens (12) or the object carrier (14) of the microscope (13) when the receptacle (1) is placed under the respective microscope, is less than 2 mm in height, in particular less than 1.5 mm and preferably approximately 1 mm, to allow the object (20) on the receiving surface (3) to be brought as close as possible to the objective lens (12) or to the object carrier (14) of the microscope (13).
