PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel consumption economy without deteriorating combus tion. SOLUTION: In an in-cylinder injection engine 1, a determination Ne, a resetting Ne and an idling Ne in a later injection mode where combustion and responsiveness are excellent are set to a low engine speed side compared to a determination Ne, a resetting Ne and an idling Ne in a former injection mode. During operation of the later injection mode, a fuel cut mode is carried out on the low engine speed side of an engine, and idling operation is performed with a low engine speed. Fuel consumption economy is improved without deteriorating combustion. |
