<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle bonnet assembly having enhanced cushioning action by causing a bonnet to move backward upon an impact being applied to the front edge of the bonnet in an accident or the like, and lifting the rear edge of the bonnet through this backward movement to increase clearance between the bonnet and an engine therebelow. SOLUTION: This vehicle bonnet assembly includes a bonnet 10 hinged to the vehicle body at a position adjacent to one end edge and having a releasable latch device 47 at a position adjacent to the opposite end edge. The bonnet 10 is hinged to the vehicle body in such a way that when an impact is applied to the front edge 31 thereof, the bonnet 10 can be moved backwards. Lifting mechanisms 40 and 42 are provided for lifting the rear edge 41 of the bonnet 10 in response to the backward movement of the bonnet 10.</p> |
