PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersant usable for viscosity regulation of slurries, reforming of lubricating oil and liquid fuel, reforming of particle surfaces of inorganic particles, organic particles, etc., and dispersion of the particles in polymers and solvents. SOLUTION: An alicyclic olefin, such as tetracyclododecene, is subjected to ring-opening metathesis polymerization by a ring-opening polymerization catalyst, such as a ruthenium complex, and thereafter, a polar compound, such as maleic acid anhydride, is reacted with the ring-opening polymer in the presence of a peroxide or the like, by which the alicyclic olefin ring-opening polymer having a polar group like a carboxyl group or caroxylic acid anhydride group is obtained and the dispersant containing the same is obtained. |
