PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold powder for continuous casting from which a cast slab having no longitudinal cracks and having good surface quality can be obtained. SOLUTION: The mold powder contains CaO, SiO2 and a fluorine compound as fundamental components, and T.CaO/SiO2, i.e., the ratio in mass% of T.CaO to SiO2 is 1.3 to 2.5. The mold powder contains 4 to 12 mass% F and the oxides of alkali metals by 4 to 12 mass% in total, and the ratio of mass% of F to the total mass% of the oxides of alkali metals is 0.6 to 2.5. The powder has viscosity of <=2 poise at 1,300 deg.C, and a solidifying point of >=1,180 deg.C.
