PURPOSE: A cathode assembly for electron gun is provided to reduce power consumed for driving the heater by arranging a shield member between the sleeve and the cathode support. CONSTITUTION: A cathode assembly(100) comprises a hollow sleeve(10) having an end which is open and the other end which is closed, and an electron emission material(9) disposed at the closed end of the hollow sleeve; a heater(20) installed within the sleeve so as to heat the electron emission material; a sleeve support(30) disposed at the outer periphery of the open end of the sleeve; a hollow cathode support(40) fitted to the outer periphery of the sleeve support; and a hollow shield member(50) having a main body(51) disposed within the cathode support and which surrounds the outer periphery of the closed end of the sleeve, in such a manner that the heat generated from the heater is prevented from being distributed all over the space formed between the cathode support and the sleeve.
