PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handwritten character input device and control method capable of obtaining input feeling of words and sentences. SOLUTION: The handwritten character input device has a function of outputting the character recognition result corresponding to handwritten input by voice synthesis. The device is provided with a means 103 for recognizing one input character unit and outputting the character recognition result by voice synthesis 102, and a means 103 for recognizing one word or one sentence unit when one character unit is continuously input and outputting the recognition result by voice synthesis.
