PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate cracking or the like of a honeycomb filter by positioning a point of application of load applied to a honeycomb filter on long sides facing each other around the honeycomb filter when vibration or impulse is added to a filter cartridge and preventing the filter cartridge from coming into contact with the honeycomb filter. SOLUTION: In honeycomb filter holding structure in which a cushioning material is disposed at a flank of the honeycomb filter provided with a large number of holes through which air passes and the honeycomb filter is held in a cartridge frame body, the cushioning material has a wide part 62a of width size larger than thickness size of the flank and is disposed so that the wide part 62a is located at two opposing long sides of opposing surfaces and projects from the opposing surface in a thickness direction of the flank. Further the honeycomb filter is held in the cartridge frame body in the thickness direction of the flank only by the wide part 62a.
