PURPOSE: A device for detecting the smoke of a diesel engine is provided to precisely detect the malfunction of the engine by monitoring exhaust gas exhausted from the engine. CONSTITUTION: An exhaust pipe(40) exhausts exhaust gas from an engine into the atmosphere. A smoke detecting unit(50) is connected to the front/rear ends of the exhaust pipe. The smoke detecting unit is composed of an exhaust-gas gathering probe(51) connected to the exhaust pipe, a direct-connecting black tube(52) connected to the exhaust gas gathering probe and having a luminous element(53) and a condensing element(54), and an exhaust-gas exhausting probe(55) connected to the direct-connecting black tube and the exhaust pipe.
