OUTBOARD ENGINE WITH SPEED SENSOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the life of the speed sensor of an outboard engine, to increase the measuring accuracy and to eliminate a clogging with floating matters or the like while facilitating the replacement of the speed sensor. SOLUTION: The speed sensor 20 equipped with electrodes 27 and 28 is attached to the side surface of the outboard engine 2. The speed sensor 20 is equipped with a coil for generating magnetic flux and the electrodes 27 and 28. When the outboard engine sails along with a motorboat, the magnetic flux generated in the coil traverses water and signal voltage proportional to the speed of a ship is generated across the electrodes 27 and 28 by electromagnetic induction action. The speed of the ship is operated on the basis of this voltage. The speed is displayed on a speedometer provided to the dashboard of the motorboat not shown in a drawing.
