METHOD OF LOCATING FAILURE POINT ON CABLE LINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of locating a failure point on a cable line not having such problems that the reflection wave of a pulse for location is not generated due to the magnitude of an impedance at the failure point on a cable line to be located and current fluctuation in the discharge time and that a location error is generated. SOLUTION: A constant current power source 31 for discharging a DC arc is connected to a cable line 21 and is activated, and then an arc discharge is generated at a failure point on the cable line 21 to allow a constant arc current to flow therein. While the failure point is in a low impedance condition by the flow of the arc current, a pulse for location is injected from a pulse generating device 35 and a distance from a terminal section 22 to the failure point is determined by a locator 24 based on a reflection wave D by the injected pulse.
