<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for internal combustion engine capable of enhancing the fuel consumption by precluding wasteful use of a reduction agent for purification of the exhaust gas. SOLUTION: The control device of the internal combustion engine capable of changing the air-fuel ratio is structured so that its exhaust system is furnished with a catalyst to purify the specified contaminants contained in the exhaust gas, wherein the catalyst occludes the contaminants and releases upon reducing them under existence of the reduction agent, and the arrangement further includes an excessive air rate lowering means to lower the excessive air rate of the mixture gas to be combusted in the engine at the time the reduction agent is supplied (steps S4 and S5).</p> |
