PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily extract viewpoints along an observation object and to easily display a cross-sectional image cut on a curved surface passed through a route connecting the respective viewpoints. SOLUTION: First of all, the trace of a target observation object is started from a dummy three-dimensional(3D) image 3, and a profile 8 on the non- transparent degree in a projecting direction 6 is extracted for each of positions of such a trace line 4. When a plurality of candidates of the observation object are projected on the extracted profile 8 of the non-transparent degree, the candidate is divided for each of observation objects. After division, viewpoint candidates in the observation object are defined, a curved surface, on which the group of viewpoints selected out of the viewpoint candidates is passed, is set as a cutting surface and the cross-sectional image cutting a 3 dimensional source image 9 on that cutting surface is constituted.
