PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device wherein the reduction of contrast due to the surface reflection of the external light is suppressed and satisfactory display having high front luminance can be obtained. SOLUTION: A prism sheet 20 having a plurality of oblong prism parts 21 along the horizontal axis direction of the screen of a liquid crystal display element 1 is disposed on the front surface of the liquid crystal display element 1 provided with a reflection plate 13 on the back side. The inclination angle of one surface 21a of a plurality of the oblong prism parts 21 of the prism sheet 20 is set to such an angle that: transmitted light made incident at a prescribed incident angle from a direction inclined toward the upper edge side of the screen relative to the normal of the front surface of the liquid crystal display element 1, transmitted through the prism sheet 20 and made incident in the liquid crystal display element 1 is refracted in such a direction that the angle to the normal is reduced; light reflected by the reflection plate 13, emitted to the front side of the liquid crystal display element 1, transmitted through the prism sheet 20 and emitted to the front side thereof is refracted in such a direction that the angle to the normal is reduced; and surface reflection light made incident at the prescribed incident angle and reflected by the one surface 21a is reflected in the direction of the outside of the observation visual field from the direction near to the normal. |
