<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover a radioactive waste such as uranium by decontaminating a solid waste contaminated with the radioactive material such as uranium. SOLUTION: A molten salt containment vessel 3 is provided within a core pipe 1, a cylindrical negative electrode 4 is provided in the molten salt 2 in the containment vessel 3, and a waste containment vessel 6 for housing the waste 5 is dipped into the molten salt 2 within the cylindrical negative electrode 4. A voltage is applied between it and the negative electrode 4 from a power source 16 to carry a current. To decontaminate the waste 5 contaminated with the adhesion of the radioactive material such as uranium, electrolysis is performed in the molten salt 2. The radioactive material adhered to the waste 5 is recovered by the negative electrode 4 when it is a metal, and the waste 5 itself is electrolytically polished when it is another compound. Thus, the radioactive material such as uranium adhered to the surface of the waste 5 can be removed. The radioactive material such as uranium can be recovered and reused in a stable state.</p> |
