PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable brake operation without separating a hand from ordinary driving power assist operation. SOLUTION: An operating switch unit is fixed on an arm rest positioned on the upper part of the hand rim of a wheelchair and when stopping the wheelchair, a brake switch 15a is pressed by the elbow or inside of the upper arm of a sitting person without separating the hand from the hand rim. A signal from the brake switch 15a is inputted to a controller, brake control is applied to an electric motor immediately by the controller, and the wheelchair is stopped. Thus, when stopping the wheelchair, complicated or great physical burden operation is not required, a braking effect is improved by speedy and sure brake operation and safety can be improved.
