PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a bright coating film which satisfies a design coating film with a dense metallic gloss having no granular feel of an aluminum flake pigment and exhibiting strong gold coloring in a highlight part seen a coating film arranged in the front, and a double-layer coating film. SOLUTION: In the method for forming the double-layer coating film which forms a bright coating film layer and a clear finish coating film layer in turn on a base material, a coating for forming the bright coating film layer contains the aluminum flake pigment prepared in a range surrounded by lines connecting each point of A (3.5, 0.01), B (6, 0.01), C (60, 0.1), and D (35, 0.1) in an X-Y orthogonal coordinate system in which the X-axis represents the average particle diameter (μm) of the aluminum flake pigment, and the Y-axis represents the average thickness (μm) of the particle and the first vehicle, and a coating for forming the clear finish coating film contains a titanium dioxide fine particle pigment and the second vehicle.
