<p>The invention concerns a pelleting plant in which a continuous stream of pellets, in a layer of given thickness, flows through a heat-treatment unit (4). In order to control the heat-treatment process, the temperature distribution (T) in the layer of pellets (2) is calculated using a mathematical model (10) based on the process parameters relevant to the pellet-heating process. The temperature distribution (T) thus calculated is then compared with an optimum temperature distribution (T*) determined on the basis of the quality requirements for the pellets after heat treatment, and reference settings are calculated for regulators (6), by means of an optimization algorithm (14), as a function of the difference between the calculated temperature distribution (T) and the optimum temperature distribution (T*), these target settings being used to control the process by means of control elements in such a way that the difference is minimized.</p> |
