PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a refined matrix metalloprotease and a method for inhibiting self-digestion of the refined matrix metalloprotease. SOLUTION: This method for producing a refined matrix metalloprotease (MMP) comprises adding a ligand of MMP to a catalytic zinc cation to a solution of MMP in a pro form. This method for inhibiting self-digestion of the refined matrix metalloprotease comprises a step for adding the ligand of the MMP to the catalytic zinc cation to the solution of refined MMP.
