<p>The drilling auger (30) is rotated and lowered simultaneously with the plunger tube (36); the tool being at the lower end of the auger. Descent and rotation are interrupted, the auger now constituting a ground anchor for the drilling system. Only the plunger tube is now turned. Drilling proceeds with back-compaction at the lower end of the borehole.
